Oscar Piastri led the way in FP2 of F1 Japanese GP from Lewis Hamilton, as slippery conditions meant no one did meaningful run.
While FP2 started on a sorry note for Williams and Logan Sargeant after it was firm that the American can’t take part due to his FP1 incident in F1 Japanese GP, it turned out to be soothing due to the tricky weather conditions at Suzuka.
It didn’t rain that heavy but it was enough to disrupt the running with most staying indoors or just completing an installation lap. For long, it was the pair of Visa Cash App RB drivers in the front but only to be removed towards the end of the session.
It was McLaren’s Oscar Piastri (1m34.725s) to top the disrupted FP2 in F1 Japanese GP from Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton (1m35.226s), as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc rounded out the Top 3 after late quick laps on the soft compound on a drying track.
Visa Cash App RB’s Yuki Tsunoda and Daniel Ricciardo slotted in fourth and fifth after their best lap on the intermediate tyre. McLaren’s Lando Norris was sixth despite a small wide moment, with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in seventh.
Only seven drivers set a representative lap times, with the likes of Nico Hulkenberg, Valtteri Bottas, Esteban Ocon, Zhou Guanyu, Alexander Albon and Kevin Magnussen only undertaking install laps, with seven of them not even trying to do an install lap.
