Petronas is calling for the Malaysian Grand Prix to return to the F1 calendar at Sepang International Circuit within the next few years.
Malaysia’s state-run oil company Petronas plans to return to the F1 calendar from 2026, with the company planning to return to the Sepang International Circuit for the first time in nine years given the sport’s recent growth, according to Reuters. He says he wants to revive the sport.
The return of the Malaysian GP is always talked about as Sepang was the favorite for many to win even after the Malaysian GP was eliminated. However, due to the financial situation, the government could not focus on his MotoGP.
Petronas revealed its plans to revive the Malaysian Grand Prix at a town hall meeting led by President and CEO Tengku Muhammad Tawfik Tengku Aziz on Tuesday, Reuters sources said. He declined to give his name.
There was no further comment as Petronas, SIC, the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office and even F1 did not immediately respond to requests for comment from authorities. With 24 races already held, adding Malaysia to the calendar will be a big challenge.
