Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in friendly matches in the coming days
Super Eagles head coach Jose Peceiro has found a solution to overcome the absence of injured Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina ahead of Nigeria’s next matches against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique, Soccernet.ng reported .
Nottingham Forest and the Nigeria national team have been hit by a serious injury slump as former Union Berlin striker Awoniyi was sidelined for a month with a groin injury.
Meanwhile, clubmate and compatriot Aina has been injured and it is unclear when he will return, meaning he will not be able to play in any upcoming friendlies.
To fill these injury holes, Peseiro named Sadiq Umar, who has recently attracted interest from Manchester United, and Empoli defender Tyron Ebouehi as replacements for the injured Forest duo.
Oumar has been lacking in scoring this season since returning from a long injury spell, but the Portuguese tactician believes he is the best solution to replace Awoniyi in the line-up.
Ebuehi has put in some impressive performances for Empoli, making him a suitable replacement for the sidelined Ola Aina.
Local media speculates that KAA Gent’s Bright Ossai-Samuel and Jordan Tornaliga may not be fully fit for the upcoming matches, although Tornaliga recently played for Gent against KRC Genk. As a result, Peseiro’s concerns ahead of the match against Saudi Arabia were allayed. / p>
The matches between Nigeria, Mozambique and Saudi Arabia are scheduled to be held in Portugal on October 13 and 16, 2023.
