Watch: Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins recreated the World Cup final ‘shhh’ celebration at request of fans in an event.
“Nothing more satisfying than hearing a big crowd go silent” was Pat Cummins’ cautionary statement in a pre-match press conference ahead of the high-voltage 2023 World Cup final between Australia and hosts India, who were the favourites to lift the title at their home turf at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Cummins stayed true to his words as he bowled a spell for the ages. He led from the front in the final, restricting India to 240 with a match-winning spell of 2-34 in which he didn’t concede a boundary. Later, Travis Head struck a sensational hundred and stitched a commendable partnership with Marnus Labuschagne (58 off 110) to power Australia to their sixth title.
In a hilarious moment, Cummins, who is leading Hyderabad in IPL 2024, was asked to re-enact the “silence” celebration by his franchise’s fans
Cummins grinned as fans demanded a recreation of the “silence” celebration. Hesitant at first, he put his index finger on his lips and burst into laughter the very next moment. The crowd cheered and whistled in joy for the gesture.
