Osimhen and Iheanacho ruled out of 2023 AFCON preparatory clash

Nigeria will face Mozambique in one of the AFCON warm-up matches, but Jose Peseiro will be without two of his biggest stars

Napoli and Leicester City strikers Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho will miss Nigeria’s friendly match against Mozambique on Monday, Soccernet reported.

On Friday, the Super Eagles played Saudi Arabia in a warm-up match for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Nigeria might have won the draw if Mohamed Kanno had scored with a free kick in the final minute.

The Treble will be hoping to do even better in Monday’s friendly against Mozambique, but Jose Peceiro will be without some of his best players.

According to Oma Akatugba, Osimhen underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury he sustained against Saudi Arabia, forcing him to miss the match against Mozambique.

Meanwhile, Kelechi Iheanacho, who scored a beautiful goal in the first match against Saudi Arabia, returned to England due to personal issues. Therefore, he will not play against Mozambique.

However, the Super Eagles have plenty of cover, with in-form Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface and Nice star Terem Moffi able to lead the attack.
