Nigeria defender’s superb side-footed goal gives Tricky Trees the lead at the City Ground
Super Eagles full-back Ola Aina expressed his delight after scoring his first goal for Nottingham Forest in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa, reports Soccernet.ng .
Aina gave the hosts the lead within five minutes after a very successful move.
Anthony Elanga broke down the left side and passed the ball back to Harry Toffolo, whose first pitch hit Ola Aina. The former Torino defender then scored his first goal for Forest with a perfect shot.
Orel Mangala doubled the Reds’ lead early in the second half and the Reds showed enough resilience to protect their third win of the season.
It was Forest’s first win in their last seven league games and was the perfect response to last week’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.
Speaking to Sky Sports (via BBC) after the match, Aina was happy with the win and admitted he will always cherish his goal.
“Big victory. Last week was disappointing, but today I’m happy. We fought for each other and won,” Aina said.
“My goal was to have an unforgettable experience. I’m glad I was able to make a breakthrough and help the team.
“We can all be proud. We stuck to the game plan and came together to fight for each other.”
This was Aina’s first goal for Forest, but his third in the Premier League.
The Nigerian right-back scored twice for Fulham in the 2020/21 season while on loan from Turin.
