NPFL: Sporting Lagos surrender three points in a nail-biting encounter against Lobi Stars

Sporting Lagos’ Jonathan Arkwu has been in good form for the Noisy Lagosians lately, scoring four goals in the last four games.

Sporting Lagos, a promoted team in the Nigeria Professional Football League, lost their third match of the season against Lobi Stars by a one-point difference, Soccernet.ng reported.

The raucous Lagosians are back on winning ways after their loss in the South West Derby against Lemostars. In the match against Niger Tornados, the team secured the three points with goals from front duo Junior Lokoza and Jonathan Arcou.

After losing against Kwara United, they bounced back with a 3-0 home win against Rabiu Alice Kano Pillars and entered the Lafia Township Stadium looking for three points.

Coach Paul Offor, like on Monday, defended his forward line with Junior Locosa and Jonathan Arkwu, and Junior Locosa almost scored a goal in the third minute of the game.

The Super Eagles striker went close to the opposition goal but was saved by the goalkeeper and it was Sporting’s Christian Nwouk who fired past Robi from close range 10 minutes later.

Seven minutes later, the Sporting goalkeeper was forced into another spectacular save, showing the fans and Jose Peceiro why he deserves praise at the 2024 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.

The host team took the lead before the 30th minute. A corner kick was placed in open space by Sunday Chukwu, who quickly scored the goal, putting Robi in the lead.

The second half started with Sporting trying to equalize. Rivio and Alukwu had their chances, but were unable to disrupt the Lobi defense and as time went on, the match became less interesting as both teams appeared to be on their own.

Sporting had 11 points from the first eight matches, including three wins, two draws and three losses. Lobi Stars are currently at the top of the NPFL table with five wins.
