NPFL: Sporting Lagos search for first away win continues after 1-1 draw in Abia

Sporting Lagos traveled to Abia to take on Abia Warriors. Both teams were separated by just one point and were looking to build on their respective weekend performances.

The match between Abia Warriors and Sporting Lagos saw the spoils shared at the Umahia Township Stadium, with each scoring a goal, Soccernet.ng reported.

Winless in their last four games, Abia Warriors were desperate to pick up three points at home but were ready when Sporting’s top scorer Jonathan Arc was ruled out for the next game. Ta.

Following Arkwu’s absence, coach Paul Offor decided to make changes to his entire frontline, appointing Naibe Akpesiri and Chisom Orji in Noisy Lagosian’s attack.

A pass from Emmanuel O’Duffy, who is yet to win away from home since promotion to the NPFL, found Knibe’s goal, putting the visitors ahead of the scoring as they hunted for all three points.

Before the end of the first half, Sporting struggled and could barely maintain their lead, but Christian Nwouk’s antics kept them in the game once again, making two saves to deny the home side .

Super Eagles striker Junior Lokosa came on as a substitute with 20 minutes left and Chisom Orji replaced the 30-year-old, hoping to extend the lead to one point.

Sporting fell back and defended in the final 10 minutes but could not withstand the pressure of Abia Warriors and the hosts scored through Nwabueze Pascal with six minutes remaining.

Perhaps a reasonable result considering the performance of both teams, Abia Warriors and Sporting Lagos currently sit in 8th and 9th place respectively in the NPFL standings after 12 weeks of competition.
