NPFL: Lokosa and Alukwu combine to wind out Niger Tornadoes

Junior Locosa was named in the 30-man reserve squad for the 2018 World Cup by coach Gernot Rohr, but did not make the final selection.

Super Eagles striker Junior Lokosa scored his first NPFL goal for Sporting Lagos in the win over Niger Tornados, Soccernet.ng reports.

Sporting Lagos has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception in 2022, winning promotion from the NNL to the Nigeria Professional Football League, which ended with a Naija Super 8 victory.

Christian Nwoke recorded three shutouts for Noisy Lagosians before the loss to Remo Stars and was looking to continue his good form at home at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan Lagos.

Jonathan Arkou and Clement Naantum had chances to score the opening goal to excite the fans at the happy corner, but they were unable to find the net.

The hosts broke the deadlock with a goal from Jonathan Alukwu two minutes before the half-hour mark. The Sporting striker celebrated the popular Cristiano RonaldoSiucelebration at the Remostars stadium last week and scored again today.

The home side took the lead when Clement Naantum played a long ball to the overlapping Akpesiri Naibe, who pushed the ball into the box and Jonathan Arkwu shot the ball into the goal.

The second goal was scored by Junior Locosa at halftime. His through ball found its way onto the 29-year-old’s frame and he managed to get past his opponent to score his first goal of the season.

Niger Tornado’s Bala Yafza scored the goal, but the home team soon regained the lead but were unable to create any clear-cut chances.

The referee’s final whistle signaled the end of an entertaining match at the Onikan Stadium, with Sporting picking up eight points from their first five league games.
