Awoniyi suffered a similar injury last season and was sidelined for several months
Nottingham Forest coach Steve Cooper has reiterated his faith in Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi despite his injury layoff, reports Soccer.
Awoniyi has been a very important player for Nottingham Forest this season. Last season, he scored six goals in Forest’s last four games, helping Forest stay in the Premier League.
He started the season in top form, scoring three goals in Tricky Trees’ first three games.
However, after returning from the international break with Nigeria, he entered a lull and has not scored in the last three games. And just hours before Saturday’s game between Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace, the 24-year-old hitman was ruled out with a groin injury.
It has been confirmed that he has been out of action for at least a month. This means Forest will miss their next three Premier League games against Luton Town, Liverpool and Aston Villa.
Nonetheless, Forest manager Cooper is confident that Awoniyi will perform well after his injury break.
“Of course it’s a blow, he (Awoniyi) was our top guy,” Cooper said, according to the Nottingham Post.
“He will be out for a month. He achieved that in the game against Brentford
“He’s been injured before, but he’s come back so strong that I know he can do it.” He’s committed to it.
“We want T to recover and undergo rehabilitation as soon as possible. We know that his willingness to contact us as soon as possible is great. I will give him all the help I can.”
When Awoniyi returned from injury last season, his goals helped Nottingham Forest stay in the Premier League.
