Not Awoniyi, not Osimhen: Luke shaw names Nigerian star as one of the toughest forward he has faced

The Manchester United star attracted interest from Old Trafford in 2014 after some impressive performances for Southampton.

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has named Nigerian star Victor Moses as one of the toughest players of his soccer career, Soccernet.ng reported.

After two impressive years at Wigan Athletic, the Nigerian striker caught the attention of Chelsea and moved to Stamford Bridge in 2012.

Shaw recalled meeting Moses during his time at Southampton, where he found the Nigerian winger to be a formidable opponent. Shaw joined Manchester United in 2014 and has since shared the field with some of the world’s best players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

In a 2020 interview that resurfaced on United’s website and was quoted by talkSPORT, Shaw praised Moses’ speed and strength on the ball, adding that he was impressed by his time playing for Southampton as a 17-year-old. It emphasized human conflict.

“People always think I’m joking, but one of the toughest games I ever played was against Moses when I came to Southampton as a 17-year-old.” admitted Shaw. “Maybe it was because I was young. He was really fast, direct and strong, so that was a challenge for me.”

Shaw plays against top-class players such as Gareth Bale, Lionel Messi and Eden Hazard, but insisted he will always remember Moses as a formidable opponent.
