Adam Gilchrist has called out a fake quote attributed to him spreading on social media, which questioned Virat Kohli’s recent India absence as an attempt to preserve Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI century record.
Gilchrist responded to the following post
It is unclear which record exactly the author of the post was referring to, but it was likely Tendulkar’s status as the player with the most centuries in men’s ODI cricket. Tendulkar has scored 49 ODI hundreds in his career while Kohli is second on the list with 47. His last 100 match in this format was against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.
Gilchrist responded to the fake quote by resharing the post with the caption, “I didn’t say that.”

Kohli, along with several other senior players, rested from the first two matches of India’s three-match ODI series against Australia. Rohit Sharma was also rested for the first two matches, while Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill were also rested. A full-strength team has been named for the final ODI.
Kohli, along with other key players, was rested in preparation for India’s canceled Asia Cup Superfours match against Bangladesh. However, he was still part of the team for this match and served drinks on the pitch during the match.
During the Asia Cup, Kohli reached 13,000 ODI runs, surpassing Tendulkar’s record to become the fastest player to cross the milestone. Tendulkar took him 321 innings to reach his 13,000 runs, while Kohli completed 267 innings.
Kohli may come close to Tendulkar’s record of this century, but he is still far from his total score record. Tendulkar scored 18,426 runs in his ODI career, while Kohli still had 13,027 runs. If you want to catch Tendulkar, you have to get past Sanath Jayasuriya, Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara.
