Mushfiqur Rahim Becomes First Bangladesh Batter To Be Dismissed Obstructing The Field

Mushfiqur Rahim became the first Bangladesh batter to be dismissed obstructing the field during day one of the second Bangladesh vs New Zealand Test in Mirpur today (December 6).

Rahim kept Kyle Jamieson’s delivery under his nose in the 41st over of Bangladesh’s first innings. However, realizing that his ball might have fallen into his own stumps after hitting near the crease of the goal, he pushed the ball away with his left glove.

The New Zealand field player immediately appealed his sending off for field interference. The on-field umpires met before deciding to send the matter to the television umpires for review.

The TV referee concluded that Rahim had deliberately handled the ball, throwing it out of bounds and blocking the playing field. With this decision, Rahim became the first Bangladeshi batsman to block the field in any form of international cricket.

Rahim was the fifth wicket to fall in Bangladesh’s innings and he scored 35 runs as the hosts struggled at 104-5.

Rahim had also tried to deflect the ball off his head and towards the stumps earlier in the innings, but this time he did not touch the ball.
