Mohammed Siraj Walks Off After Getting Hit On Throat While Attempting Catch

Mohammed Siraj was forced off the field after being hit on the throat while attempting a catch at the boundary during India’s final World Cup 2023 group stage match, against the Netherlands.

This incident occurred in the 15th run of Dutch Chase vs. 411. When Max O’Dowd tried to take on Kuldeep Yadav on the fourth ball of the over, he couldn’t muster enough force. The ball flew towards the screen and Siraj positioned himself for the catch.

But he couldn’t grab it, and the ball slipped through his upside-down palm and hit his throat. As the ball bounced, Siraj immediately raised his hand to his injured spot and took shelter next to his rope and sat leaning against the boundary board.

He remained there for several minutes and was examined by a doctor. Shocked, he was treated by a physical therapist. The action continued on the other side of the ropes, with Ravindra Jadeja knocking O’Dowd down with a ripper.

Medical staff then tested Siraj’s vision and ran their fingers over his eyes as part of a medical procedure. Shortly thereafter, he was joined by two more employees, but Siraj remained in the same position.

It took a few laps for Siraj to regain his composure and run around the Indian dugout. He sat comfortably in the front row and had a little chat with one of the substitutes, Ishan Kishan.

He then returned to the field and took his place on the ropes.

Siraj gave India their first breakthrough by dismissing opener Wesley Baresi in the second over of the chase.

Leaders India will play New Zealand in the first semi-final on November 15.
