“Maximum commitment” – Peseiro reacts as Super Eagles trash São Tomé and Príncipe

Despite having to take a pay cut to continue coaching the Super Eagles, Jose Peceiro was happy with his team’s dedication last night.

 

Super Eagles coach Jose Peceiro claimed his team played their best to win the match against AFCON qualifying group rivals Sao Tome and Principe Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Eagles defeated Parrot of Sao Tome 6-0 on a warm afternoon at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium with goals from Ademola Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi and Samuel Chukwueze and a hat-trick from Victor Osimhen.

In the first game, the Super Eagles defeated Sao Tome and Principe, winning 10-0. With the top spot in the group already secured, many felt there was not much the Super Eagles could do in terms of putting in their best performance to secure victory.

Peseiro, who recently signed a contract that will see him take charge of the Super Eagles team at the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast early next year, was enthused by the football displayed by the team and praised the team’s efforts.

“Our players played with maximum effort. They want to play for me. I brought them together to win the AFCON Cup. And today they showed great dedication in the match,” Peseiro told the media.

The 63-year-old admitted that when playing against smaller opponents it sometimes seems natural to relax and give it a try, but his players didn’t do that. He added:

“Usually when we play against a team that is not strong, everyone relaxes, but today we did not relax. “It was a great game from the players. 6-0 was very good ”

Yesterday’s victory secured Nigeria the top spot in the group, but Sao Tome and Principe will no longer be able to compete for a spot in the 2023 AFCON finals.
