Matisha Pathirana was known for his raw speed and promise and was widely expected to play a key role in Sri Lanka’s bowling attack. However, the inflammation in his bowling arm did not heal, forcing him to withdraw from the World Cup.

This defeat is worrying not only for the young fast bowler but also for Sri Lanka’s World Cup hopefuls.

“Matisha Pathirana will be excluded from the World Cup due to an unresolved injury. A decision will be made in the near future which player will replace Matisha in the team.” wrote a reporter for Sports Pavilion Sri Lanka.

The difficult task of finding Masisha Pathirana’s successor has fallen on the Sri Lankan team management and selectors. The decision-making process is expected to be difficult, as the competitiveness of the teams and the overall balance of the tournament will depend heavily on the selection of the right players.
