Mark Chapman Sacrifices His Wicket In Horrible Running Mix-up With Daryl Mitchell

Watch: Mark Chapman sacrificed his wicket in a horrible running mix-up with Daryl Mitchell during the New Zealand-Sri Lanka World Cup 2023 match in Bengaluru on November 9.

With the score at 144-3 after 20 overs, New Zealand quickly amassed 171 runs and looked set to take a huge lead in the semi-final qualification scenario. Darryl Mitchell, who was hitting 35 off 24 balls at the time, was rushing to improve his net run rate with Mark Chapman, who had just arrived at the crease.

On the third ball of the 21st over, Chapman tried to deflect a full-length ball on his pads but failed. The ball hit the back foot and rolled toward short third.

Mitchell immediately called for a single from the non-striker side, which Chapman initially complied with but then refused. At this point, Mitchell had almost reached the other end.

Chapman did not wait for Angelo Matthews to open the bowler’s side bail, selflessly allowing his partner entry as he regretfully returned to the pavilion.

Mitchell himself failed to make 43 off 31 balls, but New Zealand won by five wickets in 24 overs, all but sealing fourth place in the semi-finals.
