Virat Kohli and Quinton de Kock have moved up in the ICC Men’s ODI player rankings after impressive performances in their respective World Cup opening matches, while Josh Hazlewood is now the sole top-ranked bowler in the format.
The ICC has updated its rankings after the first week of competition for the 2023 World Cup, and several changes have been made to the top 10. Kohli scored 85 off 116 balls against Australia and is currently seventh in the batting rankings. De Kock, just ahead of him, has moved up one place to his sixth place in the overall rankings since the game against Sri Lanka.
England’s Dawid Malan is also a big climber, moving up seven places to break into the top 10 in 8th place. He scored an impressive 140 runs in England’s second match against Bangladesh on October 10, making it his fourth century in this format this year. His rating of 711 is a career high, just four points behind Kohli.
Aiden Markram and KL Rahul also improved their positions. Rahul scored an unbeaten 97 against Australia and moved up 15 places to 19th place. Markram became the fastest player in history to reach his 100 hits against Sri Lanka in the World Cup, moving him up 11 ranks to take him to 21st place.
There has also been a change in the bowling rankings, with Hazlewood previously holding the position alongside Mohammad Siraj and now the world’s all-time number one ODI bowler. HazlewoodHe took 3-38 against India, including picking up two wickets in the first over. On the other hand, Siraj dropped 5 points in the bowling rankings even though he finished with 1 win and 26 losses against Australia.
New Zealand pace duo Tent Boult and Matt Henry have finished in the top 10 with impressive performances in the Blackcaps’ first two matches.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan maintains his position as the best all-rounder in the rankings. Mitchell Santner is the only new all-rounder to break into the top 10 after taking his first five wickets of the tournament against the Netherlands.
