“Leverkusen are perfect for me” – Victor Boniface enjoying start to life with German League leaders

Last season’s top scorer in the UEFA Europa League joined the Werkself in a deal worth over 20 million euros in the summer transfer window.

Super Eagles striker Victor Okoh Boniface has described Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen as the perfect club for him, Soccernet.ng reported.

The Nigerian player had an excellent season in Belgium with Union Saint Giroise, and his performances led to a move to bigger club Leverkusen.

Under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso, Boniface scored 10 goals in just 14 appearances for the Reds, and set up four more for his teammates.

In an interview with UEFA, the 22-year-old said that his performances against the German team could have earned him a move to Germany.

“I had a good season with Union Saint Giroise and played in the Europa League with them. I was lucky enough to play against two German teams: Union Berlin “I played for Bayer Leverkusen and I think I did very well,” the 1.91m striker told UEFA.com.

Boniface had offers from several top clubs across Europe, but the Nigerian player chose Leverkusen due to the high expectations and pressure to play football at the highest level.

“I had good options from different clubs, but my football journey is step by step. I had no intention of jumping from the Belgian League to the Premier League. It’s big, Leverkusen are a great team and one of the biggest clubs in Germany in the way they play football,” the 22-year-old added.

Boniface, who has scored 10 goals in 14 games, believes Leverkusen is the right fit for him and the best team in which to develop as a young player.

“When I was in Nigeria, my agent told me about my interest in Leverkusen. He said they were developing young players and I liked the way they played. I said to myself, ‘I spoke to the manager and he explained everything to me and I thought this was the perfect club for me. ”

Boniface’s attacking side has kept Leverkusen unbeaten on all fronts, becoming the first club to reach 50 goals in Europe this season and remaining solid at both ends of the pitch.
