Kiwis batsman Finn Allen will auction off a limited edition T-shirt to raise money for the New Zealand Cancer Society.
Allen hit 16 sixes and scored 137 off 62 balls against Pakistan last month. In doing so, he equaled the world record for most runs with six and set the highest individual T20I score by a New Zealander.
Coincidentally, the number 6 corresponds to the number Allen wears on his game jersey. To commemorate the historic innings, NZC has created a limited edition of 16 of Finn Allen’s playing jerseys, one of which will be made to raise money for a charity close to Allen’s heart. It will be put up for auction.
The framed T-shirt will be auctioned on Trade Me, with BLACKCAPS and Cancer Society major sponsor ANZ matching the final bid of $6,000. That’s a number that reflects Allen’s impressive six goals.
Mr Allen said his decision to auction off the shirt for the Cancer Society was inspired by seeing the devastation the disease caused to loved ones.
“My aunt, my father’s sister, died of ovarian cancer before I was born,” Allen said.
“ She was only 30 years old. I had never met her, but I saw the impact it had on my family.< u>
“Last month, around the time this series started, I celebrated the 29th anniversary of my aunt’s death, so when NZC contacted me about the t-shirt, I thought I’d find an opportunity to give something back. ”
Allen said he was able to shine a light on sports by using his performance to support those suffering from cancer.
“I have many family members and friends who have been deeply affected by cancer in one way or another, so it is extremely rewarding to turn a special accomplishment into giving back in some way. >
“During the innings, I was so focused that it felt like time passed really fast and it was all over in the blink of an eye. So it’s a good way to make this moment even more memorable. ”
