Karun Nair Ramps Bouncer Audaciously Over Keeper’s Head To Bring Up Maiden County Championship Hundred

Watch: Karun Nair brought up his maiden County Championship hundred with an audacious boundary over the slip cordon on day two of Northamptonshire’s fixture against Surrey.

Nair, who signed for Northamptonshire in the final stages of the 2023 County Championship, claimed his 16th first-class win in a must-win game for his new team at Kia Oval.

Nair, who entered the match at 51-2 in fourth place on the scorecards, took a cautious approach as wickets continued to fall around him. At 193-7 Northants were in trouble, but Nair combined with Tom Taylor (66 points) to lead the team to his 307 points.

He also recorded his first start in a championship game, reaching the milestone on the final 92nd pitch.

Daniel Worrall hit the bouncer and in the 99th minute Nair effortlessly headed the ball over the goalkeeper to make it four points. The right-handed pitcher struck 184 out of 100 pitches and reached the boundary on 17 pitches.

Nair is the second Indian player to score a triple century in Test cricket, but his last international appearance was in March 2017, three months after that milestone. From his 2021 season onwards, he made only three appearances for Ranji before signing for Northamptonshire.

Nair, who made his county debut against Warwickshire last week, was the team’s top scorer with 78 points out of a total of 250.
