Jay-Jay Okocha reveals why Victor Osimhen should win the CAF POTY

Osimhen is one of the favorites to win the prestigious CAF award and Okocha pitched his tent with the Neapolitan talisman

Former Super Eagles star Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has pitched a tent with Victor Osimhen ahead of the 2023 CAF Awards later this month, reports Soccernet.ng.

The prestigious CAF Awards will be held on December 11th at the Movenpick Hotel in Marrakech, Morocco. And the highlight of the event is always the ‘Male Payer of the Year’ award.

This year, the category is very competitive due to the success of African athletes. Nigerian striker Osimhen, who scored 26 goals to lead Napoli to his first Serie A title in 33 years, is one of the favorites to win the award.

He also helped them reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time. Osimhen wants to end Nigeria’s 24-year run to the CAF title, but faces a tough battle with Moroccan goalkeepers Yassin Bounou, Achraf Hakimi and former Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez. facing competition.

The benchmark for this year’s award is the player’s performance from last season. With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane underperforming last season, this could be Osimhen’s year.

Okocha, a former Nigeria national team midfielder, believes Osimhen has done enough to win the award.

“He (Osimhen) deserves the award because for me he was the most consistent player last season. He deserves it,” Okocha said at the Bundesliga media round.

Osimhen, who was nominated for the Ballon d’Or award and the FIFA Best Award earlier this year, would be over the moon if he wins.
