Jake Fraser-McGurk Hits World-Record 29-Ball Hundred, The Fastest Ever In Top-Level Cricket

Watch: South Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk hit a hundred in only 29 balls, the fastest ever in senior professional cricket, during the 2023 Marsh Cup game against Tasmania.

The 21-year-old set several records with his incredible knock of 125 off 38 balls. The innings included 10 fours and 13 sixes for a strike rate of .329. The youngster took 18 balls to reach his tournament-record fifty, but his second fifty required 11 more deliveries. Fraser-McGuirk has gotten off to a good start in her pursuit of the 436 world record. He had led the team to his 172-1 in his 12 overs when he was dismissed for 125 off his 38 balls.

Fraser-McGuirk became the fastest player to reach 100 balls, surpassing AB de Villiers who took 31 balls in the 2015 ODI between South Africa and West Indies. He also holds the record for appearances in all formats. Highest level to achieve fastest 100. The previous record is that of Chris Gayle in 2013 when he played for the Indian Premier League’s Royal Challengers in the Bangalore vs Pune match where he hit 30 balls.

The Australian also scored 32 runs in his three overs in a mammoth run chase of 436, hitting Sam Rainbird with four sixes and two fours. He also topped the innings with his sixth consecutive six, including his fifth consecutive six and four, extending his hundred on the last ball of the ninth over.

However, South Australia failed in the duel and lost by 37 points.
