“It’s not an option” – Real Sociedad boss speaks on transfer rumours concerning Super Eagles star Umar Sadiq

The Nigeria international could secure a move from the Spanish club in search of more playing time

Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil has poured cold water on rumors linking Nigerian striker Omar Sadiq with leaving the club, Soccernet.ng reports.

Sadiq moved to Real Sociedad from Almeria last year and quickly became a fan favorite, scoring two goals in his first three games.

However, the 26-year-old suffered a serious injury and will miss the rest of the season.

The former Glasgow Rangers signing has been working on regaining his fitness this season but has struggled to find game time.

Sadiq played in 11 games in La Liga, but started only three, played just 291 minutes, and scored one goal and provided one assist.

The Super Eagles striker was included in the first eleven when Real Sociedad beat Almeria 3-1 on Saturday, but was substituted at half-time.

And in the post-match press conference, Alguacil addressed rumors that Sadiq might leave the club during the winter transfer window and stressed that he was satisfied with the Nigerian’s performance.

“That’s not an option,” said the Basque coach. “I want him, and I know he’s happy to be here, even if it’s just for a few minutes.

“He’s injured. He’s playing in a team at Champions League level, so there’s not a lot of space.”

Despite not having much playing time for the club, Sadiq was called up for Nigeria’s World Cup qualifiers in November.
