Gautam Gambhir will return to Kolkata Knight Riders as a mentor for IPL 2024, announced the KKR franchise today (November 22).
The former India opener, who mentored Lucknow Super Giants in the last two seasons of the IPL, announced in a social media post that he is ending his career with LSG.
Mr. Gambhir expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in the LSG franchise and wished them all the best for the future.

About 10 minutes after Gambhir announced his exit from LSG, Kolkata Knight Riders posted on X (Twitter) about Gambhir’s ‘return home’.
Gambir was with KKR for seven seasons from 2011 to 2017 and led KKR to two IPL trophies. He will now return to his third most successful franchise in the IPL after CSK and MI as his mentor for IPL 2024 and head coach Chandrakant will work alongside Pandit.

Gambir has always been open about his time with Kolkata Knight Riders and said he is excited and looking forward to the reunion. “I’m not an emotional person, so nothing really moves me. But this is different,” Gambhir said.
“We’re back where it all started.” Today, the thought of putting on the purple and gold jersey again leaves a lump in my throat and a fire in my heart. Not only will I be returning to KKR, I will be returning to City of Joy. i am back. I’m hungry. I’m number 23. This is KKR Ami. ”
Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, owner of the KKR franchise, welcomed Gambhir’s return to KKR. “Gautam has always been a part of the family. This is our captain coming home as a ‘mentor’ in a different avatar,” he said.
“We missed him so much, but now we all know Chandu Sir and Gautam will instill the never-say-die spirit and sportsmanship they represent and create magic with Team KKR. I’m looking forward to it.”
