Dasun Shanaka, Sri Lanka’s captain, has been ruled out of the 2023 World Cup through injury, with Chamika Karunaratne called up in his place.
Shanaka injured his right thigh during Sri Lanka’s loss to Pakistan and was given a three-week suspension. Sri Lanka decided not to keep him in the squad to recover and instead called up another seam bowling all-rounder, Karunaratne.
The 27-year-old has represented Sri Lanka in 23 ODIs, as well as 42 T20Is and one Test. He achieved his ODI fifty and took 24 wickets.
Shanaka’s departure is a big blow. He has been the captain of the Sri Lankan national team since the end of 2021, and although his captaincy stats seem modest with a batting average of 20 and a bowling average of 50, his great batting performance stands out as a player to be feared. Masu.
