India can’t function without Ravindra Jadeja in ICC World Cup 2023: Sanjay Manjrekar

On Monday 4 September, Ravindra Jadeja showed off his bowling skills by picking three key wickets for Palekele in the second match of the 2023 Asian Cup Group B India vs Nepal. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjurekar highlighted Jadeja’s role in India’s ODI World Cup campaign.

Jadeja hasn’t been making regular appearances lately, but he’ll be making a regular appearance in the ODI World Cup Roster Announcement on Tuesday, September 5th. In the game against Nepal, Jadeja impressed with the ball in middle overs, holding Nepal to 178 for six in 37.5 overs. He showed precision and speed in executing overs efficiently. He wasted just 35 runs and took 3 wickets. The victims were Bim Sharki (7), Nepalese captain Rohit Paudel (5) and Kushal Mala (2).

On Star Sports, Manjulekar pointed out that Jadeja often hits 10 overs.

“He has a very high chance of almost certainly playing every World Cup match. He will be picked as an all-rounder.If the field is rough and he has good opponents, he will go 10 overs,” Manjulekar said.

Jadeja also achieved an important record, tying Irfan Patan’s record for most wickets by an Indian bowler in the Asian Cup (ODI format) with 22 wickets.

Manjulekar also said it was unfair to compare Jadeja’s punching power with Yuvraj Singh.

“But in 2011, we had Yuvraj Singh, a hitter all-rounder. It would be unfair to compare his shots to Jaydeja’s. We see him as a potential No. 8 or No. 8 threat. His ODI career has changed dramatically over the last few years,” he concluded.

India’s victory at the World Cup relied on spin bowling all-rounder Yuvraj Singh to dominate other teams. Yuvraj put in an outstanding performance overall, scoring 352 runs and 15 wickets in his nine matches.
