Chaudhary, who played domestic cricket for Punjab and represented India at U-19 level, dismissed Cameron Bancroft with a brilliant catch from his own bowling in Hobart Hurricanes’ home game against Thunder. , picked up his first BBL wicket.
Bowling the first over, off-spinner Chaudhary conceded six runs off the first five balls, but took the wicket of Bancroft, who took 20 hits with a run-a-ball. Chaudhary, who played for Punjab till 2019, was stuck in Australia during the COVID-19 crisis, an experience that inspired him to pursue cricket in the country. Over the next few years he developed into a strong all-rounder and most recently he made 71 off his 28 balls in the T20 Max semi-final.
James Hopes, Northern Suburbs coach and member of the Hurricanes’ coaching staff, recommended Choudhary’s name to the team before the season, and he made his BBL debut shortly thereafter.
Chowdary took a total of 9 wickets and scored 139 runs in 16 T20 matches. He also made two appearances in his A matches for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
