IND Vs AUS Injury Updates: Pat Cummins Fit For ODI Series Opener, Mitchell Starc Unavailable

Back from injury, Australia captain Pat Cummins is all set to play the first ODI against India on September 22. Mitchell Starc misses out as he is yet to fully recover from ‘groin soreness’.

Australia will be boosted by the return of key players who missed the white-ball tour of South Africa due to injury. Captain Pat Cummins injured his wrist in the 2023 Ashes, but declared in a press conference that he is healthy. Steve Smith will also return to the starting lineup after a wrist injury. He was sweating in the net.

However, Mitchell Starc, the highest wicket-taker in the 2023 Ashes (23), cannot be selected. Even though Starc played the fifth Ashes Test with a shoulder injury, Australia included him in their 18-man squad for the tour of India. When he got home, he felt pain in his groin.

Glenn Maxwell will also skip the first ODI. After suffering a painful injury to his foot last year, he twisted his ankle while training in South Africa and has not played since.

Cummins reported to his colleagues about his recovery process: “Starc is here. He wants to play tomorrow, but hopefully he’ll be available later in the series. So is Maxwell.”

India will play three ODIs against Australia in Mohali on September 22, Indore on September 24 and Rajkot on September 27. These will be the last matches for both teams before the World Cup warm-up matches.
