Watch: Iftikhar Ahmed went down on one knee and smashed Rashid Khan for a huge six en route to a blistering cameo that helped Pakistan post a formidable total against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup game on October 23 (Monday).
Pakistan were stumbling at 206 for 5 in the 42nd over when Iftikhar came into bat when Shadab Khan was already standing at the crease. The batsman was not a star in the World Cup with figures of 9, 22*, 4 and 26 in four matches, but he played against Afghanistan and ended up with the help of four sixes and two fours. He scored 40 points with 27 pitches.
The first high came in the 45th over against Rashid, which helped break the shackles. The ball flew the full length of the ball and Iftikhar dropped down on one leg and blasted it over the bull’s horns for the first and highest score of the match.
He ended with a strike rate of 148.15, stitching together a 73-run stand with Shadab in 7.3 overs. Courtesy of their stand, Pakistan ended with a competitive 282-7 as they look for their third win of the competition.
