Former Proteas captain AB de Villiers has denied reports that he will be joining Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) again as an Indian Premier League player. The 39-year-old played for RCB from 2011 until 2018 and has grown into one of the most famous players in the league.
In 2011, de Villiers signed with Royal Challengers Bangalore, becoming one of the biggest players in the Bangalore-based franchise’s cash-rich league. During his glory days with RCB, de Villiers played 156 matches in the IPL and scored an impressive 4,491 runs with the help of two centuries and 37 fifties. He was inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame in his 2023 year.
AB de Villiers reiterated on his YouTube channel that he will not be returning to the Indian Premier League as a player as he has already decided to retire, adding: He is clear about his decision.
“I’ve thought about it before, but it won’t happen. “I’ve made my decision. Throughout my career, I’ve always tried to be loyal to the fans and the team.” said AB de Villiers.
AB de Villiers believes he started to lose energy on the field because he wasn’t playing enough cricket for the lucrative league. He also said that if he can’t make a difference in the game, he won’t be in the game.
“Secondly, I was told from a young age that when you make a decision, be clear about what you have decided and stick to it.A lot of thought goes into it. The reason is that the energy on the field has decreased a little over the last few seasons.”
“There are several reasons for this. I only played a few months a year. I found myself in the middle and I don’t think I’m as good as I used to be. It was terrible. If I’m not here to be the best in the world and change this game, then it’s time for me to move on,” AB de Villiers added.
After signing with the franchise in 2011, AB de Villiers emerged as one of the biggest players of the Bangalore-based franchise. De Villiers has helped RCB reach the playoffs five times and is said to be considering working with the franchise in some capacity in the future.
