The dismissal was significant as Proteas and Pakistan were playing a thrilling match in Chennai. South Africa, who had a 271-run lead for victory, got off to a quick start, but Pakistan’s counterattack saw the top three teams dismissed between 20 and 30 points. The last one was Van der Dussen, he got hit on the pads and played to Mir.

He reviewed the decision and was sent off midway as the decision was a close one, but a technical malfunction sent him in before chaos could occur. Screenshots of this moment were circulated on social media, but a highlight video of the moment on the ICC website was cut out just before a projection of him tracking the ball was shown.

“In today’s match between South Africa and Pakistan, an incomplete graphic was incorrectly displayed during Rassie van der Dussen’s LBW review,” an ICC spokesperson said. “In the end, the finished graphic appeared with the correct details.”

Mir was not initially named in the playing eleven, but his wicket was also notable as he was called up as a substitute after Shadab Khan suffered a concussion. He became the first substitute in World Cup history to take a wicket due to concussion.
