The 24-year-old scored 26 goals for Gli Azzurri last league season, won the Capocannoniere Award and was nominated for the Ballon d’Or and FIFA Player of the Year awards after an outstanding season.
A Nigerian player has described Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Romero as the toughest defender he has faced in his career. The two played against each other when the Argentine was in Italy’s Serie A before moving to north London.
In the 2020/2021 season, Romero made 31 appearances for Atalanta this season, winning the Serie A Best Defender Award and being named the toughest defender Osimhen has ever faced.
The Super Eagles striker highlighted that the strength, speed and intensity of the 25-year-old Argentine defender made him stand out amongst all the other defenders he’s played against.
“Cristian Romero is the most difficult defender I have ever met. When we first met, I was surprised by his speed. I fought very hard duels against him. I experienced it. It was a shock,” Osimhen said in a quote published byTV Play Official.
Romero has been solid for Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs this season, conceding nine goals in 10 games to keep the team top of the English Premier League.
Osimhen’s praise for the World Cup winner will certainly come as an encouragement for the defender as he looks to defy the odds to win a trophy with Tottenham.
