Super Falcons left-back Ashley Plumptre has revealed the reasons behind his decision to leave the European club and move to Saudi Arabia, reports Soccernet.ng.
Plumptre, 25,’s contract with Leicester City expired last summer, and after Nigeria’s exit in the round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Plumptre moved to Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad.
The former Leicester City full-back had offers from top clubs in Europe and America, but chose to move to the Middle East to continue his football career.
Many suggested that the British-born Nigerian defender moved overseas for financial incentives, but Plumptre denied that was the case.
In an interview with
Nigeria Football, Plumptre stressed that his path as a footballer was not the traditional one where players always move on to bigger teams.
“That’s not the reason. I had offers in Europe, I had offers in America, but it doesn’t matter either. My soccer journey is to go to the first team to go to the first team. Not only that, but I also understand myself and what I expect from football,” Plumptre said in an interview.
It was a challenge for her to make an impact on and off the pitch and in her new environment, but she responded to it brilliantly.
“I probably had a few more opportunities to go elsewhere, but I had never been before I decided to come here. The moment I talked to the coach and felt that feeling. , I wanted to be here. We talked about lifestyle, culture and the impact I could make,” she added.
Pranputlu, who is currently in Saudi Arabia, enjoyed a dream debut with Al Ittihad, scoring a hat-trick.
