Osimhen is one of the best players in Europe at the moment, but Mikel expects him to achieve even more in the Premier League p>
Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has advised compatriot Victor Osimhen to leave Napoli if he wants to reach the top, reports Soccernet.
Osimhen has been one of the hottest strikers in world football for the past two years. The 24-year-old goalkeeper scored 26 goals last season and helped Napoli win the Scudetto. His talent saw him break the long-standing scoring records of African greats Samuel Eto’o and George Weah.
After an impressive season with the Partenopeans, the former Wolfsburg player was linked with a number of Europe’s top clubs. Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid were in talks to sign him, but no deal materialized.
Napoli are also currently trying to secure a contract extension with him. However, the deal did not go through.
Despite all the talk, former Chelsea star Mirel believes a move to the Premier League would be in Osimhen’s best interests.
“Osimhen is still young and a promising candidate. He has a lot of things to improve on,” Mikel said on Obione’s podcast.
“Give him a few years and he will be at the top. But I think his future lies elsewhere. Next season will probably be in the summer instead of January. I think it will be.
“If he wants to get to the top, he has to progress. He has made his contribution at Napoli and it is time for him to move on to achieve bigger things. This is only done if you go to the Premier League
.
Osimhen’s days at Napoli appear to be numbered as he has refused to sign a contract extension. If he refuses to put his new contract on paper, the club could be forced to sell him next summer.
