The United Arab Emirates secured two points with a thrilling victory against Sri Lanka in Group B of the 2023/24 ACC U-19 Asia Cup. Chasing 221, they engaged in a stop-start chase but Tanish Suri kept them on track with an 88-ball 75.
It was 172 for 6 before captain Ayan Afzal Khan (33) and Ammar Badami (17 not out) added 38 runs, but Sri Lanka fought back again and the UAE picked up two wickets. I needed 8 points. No. 10 Ayman Ahmed then sealed the match with two boundaries. Sri Lanka had seam bowler Garuka Sankes back with his 3-35.
Earlier, Sri Lanka were scored 220-9 after the United Arab Emirates opted to bowl at the ICC Academy in Dubai. Sri Lanka’s captain Sines Jayawardena (49 years old) and Lusanda Gamage (26 years old) took control at the crease with a score of 112 wins and 2 losses, but they later fell to 122 wins and 5 losses, and then 168 wins and 7 losses. Ta.
An eight-wicket stand of 51 between Dinura Kalpahana (56 not out) and Vishwa Rahil (26) contributed to their recovery. UAE won with Omid Rehman with his 2-48 and Aayan with his 2-38.
Been a horrible few weeks for cricket in Sri Lanka. To make things worse, the under-19 team has just lost to UAE under-19 in the Asia Cup in Dubai. For a country that takes lot of pride in schools cricket, this loss will send shockwaves.

Sri Lanka’s big win against Japan (226 balls remaining) helped them produce an excellent net run rate of +1.708 even after the loss to UAE. In two matches, Bangladesh defeated both UAE (61 points difference) and Japan (232 balls), he scored 4 points and had a net run rate of +2.688.
However, neither team has qualified for the semi-finals as UAE currently trail Sri Lanka on points and are two points behind Bangladesh. The net run rate is a dismal -0.504, but the final match is against Japan, where Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will play.
Assuming UAE wins, Sri Lanka will need to beat Bangladesh to ensure a three-way tie on points. Two teams will then advance based on net run percentage. If Sri Lanka does not win, UAE and Bangladesh will advance. Both fights he will take place on December 13th.
