Osimhen finished eighth in the Ballon d’Or rankings, becoming the first Nigerian to finish in the top 20 since Kanu.
AFCON winner Super Eagle John Mikel Obi has encouraged Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to join Chelsea at the end of the season, reports Soccernet.ng.
After enjoying success in the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea in 2012, Mikel won the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria in 2013 and praised Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen scored the most goals in Italy’s Serie A last season, won the Golden Boot award and led Napoli to their first Scudetto in more than 30 years.
Mikel is known for carrying Chelsea’s pride for most of his career, but his form has declined markedly in recent times.
The former Super Eagles captain mentioned that compatriot Osimhen could be the man to revive Mauricio Pochettino’s side, even comparing the 24-year-old striker to former teammate Didier Drogba.
“He has a personality and is arrogant. When he leaves, you know someone has come into the room. That was exactly Didier’s experience. I think he is and my advice to him is to come to Chelsea,” Mikel said on the Obi Wan Podcast.
Osimhen was unable to play for coach Rudi Garcia’s team due to an injury he sustained during his last international break.
