Nigerian striker is having a great time in Saudi Arabia but could cut it short and return to Europe soon
Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Doğan has revealed that efforts are being made to convince Anthony Nwakaeme to return to the club soon, Soccernet.ng reports.
Nwakaeme’s departure caused a huge rift between his family, and he left Trabzonspor in the summer of 2022, ending his four-year stay in Trabzon.
During his time at the club, Nwakaeme helped Trabzonspor win the Turkish Cup, Super Cup and Super Lig for the first time in almost 40 years.
However, when the contract expired, the player and the club were unable to agree on a contract extension, and the Nigeria international will join Saudi Arabia’s Al Faiha on a free transfer in August 2022.
Nevertheless, Nwakaeme remains a popular figure at Trabzonspor, with the club’s top manager confirming that he has contacted the 34-year-old striker about a return to Turkey.
Doan revealed in January that Nwakaeme wanted to return to Trabzonspor, but the club president confirmed there was no transfer fee involved in the deal.
However, Nwakaeme’s contract with Al Faiha expires in June, so Trabzonspor could sign the player on a free transfer in the summer.
According to Fotomac, President Doan said: He has a contract with Alfaiha. We said we couldn’t pay him the transfer fee. He also wants to come. Let’s take a look. ”
Nwakaeme is an important figure for Al Faiha, with the former Hapoel Be’er Sheba contributing 6 goals (5 goals, 1 assist) in 16 competitive matches for the Asian team.
