Nigeria’s Golden Eagles won their last World Cup title in 2015 but have yet to reach the top since then.
Former Golden Eaglets midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has recalled when Nigeria U-17 team won their fourth World Youth Championship title, reports Soccernet.ng.
GD midfielder Chavez took to his Instagram feed to recall Nigeria winning the trophy in 2015 and revealed that it was a fond memory he will never forget.
The tournament was packed with events with Nwakali captaining the team and playing a key role under the leadership of Emmanuel Amunike.
For his efforts, Nwakali earned the Golden Ball with three goals and three assists in the tournament.
He then posted a nostalgic photo of the event on social media, revealing the good memories behind it.
“On this day in 2015, we won against Nigeria with Chile U17. These are beautiful memories that will always be with us,” he wrote.
Alongside Nwakali, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen played a key role for the Golden Eaglets, scoring in every match of the tournament, including a hat-trick against Australia.
Osimhen scored a total of 10 goals and provided 2 assists, earning him both the Golden Boot and the Silver Boot.
Some of the players from the 2015 U-17 team are still doing outstanding work with their respective clubs. Osimhen wins his 2022-23 Serie A top scorer award and Samuel Chukwueze wears his AC Milan colors.
