The ICC ODI player rankings have seen a massive shift of positions, with the most prominent of them being the rise of Shubman Gill to No.2 in the batters’ rankings.
The Indian player has risen to the top of the ICC ODI player rankings after his impressive performance in the ongoing Asia Cup. With 154 runs in four matches, including two half-centuries, Gill moved to a career-best second spot, ahead of only Pakistan captain Babar Azam.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have also performed well in the Asia Cup so far and that is reflected in their growth in the rankings. In both he moved up two places, with him in 9th place and him in 8th place in the standings.
Among the bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav did not play in the Asia Cup, but he took 9 wickets in 3 matches at an average of 11.33. He has now moved up five places in the ICC ODI Bowlers Rankings to place him at number 7. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya has moved up four places in his ODI all-rounder rankings and is currently at 6th position.
Pakistan openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq have not had the best results in the tournament so far and have fallen down the batsmen’s rankings. Zaman fell three places to 10th place, while Imam fell one place to fifth place. Pakistan’s bowlers, on the other hand, were on the rise.
Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah made big strides in the bowling rankings despite getting injured in Pakistan’s Superfords match against India. Rauf has moved up eight places to 21st place, while Naseem has moved up 11 places to 51st place.
Elsewhere, players from Australia and South Africa are also rising in the rankings. David Warner has moved up one place to fourth in the ODI batsmen’s rankings, while Travis Head has moved up six places to 20th. Meanwhile, Temba Bavuma has significantly increased his 21 places to reach his 11th place, the highest rating point of his career.
Josh Hazlewood cemented his place at the top of the ODI bowling rankings after taking three wickets in the first game of the series, with Keshav Maharaj and Tabraj Shamsi also moving up the rankings.
