Gaining Momentum At The Right Time Is Important – Shubman Gill Wants To Win The Asia Cup Final Against Sri Lanka

India’s young opener Shubman Gill said a win against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final would give the Indian team a much-needed boost heading into the ODI World Cup to be held in India. Rohit Sharma’s team performed extremely well in the continental competition, defeating the top teams by a narrow margin.

India’s batsmen, who lost the Asia Cup Super 4 match by six runs, apart from centurion Shubman Gill, had Rohit Sharma, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav and Kuala Lumpur on the wicket to give them spin and support. We had a tough time against Bangladesh’s spinners. Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja could not make any valuable contribution to the team in a close game.

After the team’s loss against Bangladesh, Shubman Gill in an interview with the media stressed the importance of winning the final against Sri Lanka. That’s because it will help the team build momentum for the main event in India and India. He believes the team gave extra runs to Bangladesh’s lower-order batsmen, which hurt the match in Colombo.

“Winning in the (Asia Cup) final is very important for us because we need to develop the habit of winning. To reach the peak at the right time and build momentum at the right time That’s important.”

“It’s also important to keep that momentum going because losing one or two games can put pressure on us. A win here would give us a lot of momentum and confidence heading into the World Cup .”

“I don’t think we lost any momentum. I think we gave away an extra 10-15 runs to the lower order batsmen (Bangladesh), but other than that we played some good cricket.” said Shubman Gill

India decided to rest five frontline players Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj for the Bangladesh match, as they brought in Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, Mohammad Shami, Prasidh Krishna, and Shardul Thakur for the game.

Hopefully, We Can Execute These Lessons In The Final Of Asia Cup And The World Cup – Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill believes this can happen on difficult wickets where it is difficult for batsmen to adapt to the situation, and Sri Lanka are riding high after their thrilling win over Pakistan. I believe we will advance to the finals.

“But on such wickets, such things happen. I hope we can put these lessons into practice in the (Asia Cup) final and the World Cup.”

“I think they (SL) have great dynamism. The way they won in the last match (against Pakistan) was great. We worked hard to beat them and We have to give 100 per cent,” added Shubman Gill.
