Australia will host Pakistan for a Test series from December 14. Here are the squads of both teams, including the full team lists for the AUS vs PAK Test series.
Pakistan made significant changes to their squad after being eliminated in the group stage of the 2023 World Cup. Shan Masood has taken over the leadership of the Test team from Babar Azam, who stepped down as all-format captain last month. Saim Ayub, the country’s prolific run-scorer, was given his first Test assignment along with in-form pacer Furram Shahzad and ended the 2023-24 first-class season with the highest number of wickets (36) at an average of 20.30.
Left-arm speedster Mir Hamza also returned to the team after an excellent first-class season in which he was the second highest wicket-taker in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy with 32 sculls/20.87. Fast bowling all-rounder Faheem Ashraf is also scheduled to return to Tests, having last played a Test match in December 2022. While Naseem Shah continues to recover from a shoulder injury, chief selector Wahab Riaz has insisted that Haris Rauf will be unavailable for the series.
On the other hand, Australia have only announced their squad for the opening game in Perth. Uncapped pacer Lance Morris received his first Test call-up in the 14-man group. Morris is known for regularly reaching speeds of 150km/h and has picked up 11 wickets in three games for Western Australia in the current Sheffield Shield season. He joins a coveted pace arsenal in skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Scott Borland, with Nathan Ryan defeated in the second Test of the 2023 Ashes. He is making a comeback after recovering from a calf injury.
In the batting department, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith were obvious choices, with David Warner set to play in the farewell Test series in Sydney.
