Sri Lanka finished 10th in the Super League and had to participate in the World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe at the beginning of the year. There they won all eight of their matches and qualified for the World Cup along with second place Netherlands.
Sri Lanka will begin the World Cup with warm-up matches against Bangladesh and Afghanistan in Guwahati. The World Cup begins with a match against South Africa in Delhi on October 7 and the league campaign ends with a match against New Zealand in Bangalore on November 9.
South Africa will play twice in Lucknow, against Australia on October 16 and against the Netherlands on October 21. This is his only one-day match at the World Cup. In addition to the match against New Zealand, they will play England in Bangalore on October 26.
Sri Lanka won the World Cup in 1996, were runners-up in 2007 and 2011, and reached the semi-finals in 2003.
