Cricket will return to the upcoming Asian Games, eight years on from its last inclusion in 2014 in Incheon, South Korea. Here’s the complete list of teams participating in event at the Asian Games 2023.
14 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams will participate in the tournament, competing for the coveted gold medal in their respective categories.
The men’s tournament is scheduled to be held from September 27 to October 8 in T20 format, while the women’s version will be held from September 19 to 25 in the same format. Pingfeng Cricket Ground at Zhejiang University of Technology will be the venue for all matches.
Based on the ICC T20I rankings as of June 1, 2023, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have already qualified for the quarter-finals.
Afghanistan, a full ICC member, will only participate in the men’s competition. If they win against Mongolia, they will advance to the top eight.
Cricket was introduced at the 2010 Games in Guangzhou, China, and was competed in both men’s and women’s categories at the 2014 Continental Games in Incheon, South Korea. No cricket was played at the last Asian Games, his 2018 tournament in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In Incheon, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka won three women’s medals, while Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh won men’s medals.
