The Nigerian striker was one of the hottest players of the summer
Former PSG midfielder Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has expressed dissatisfaction with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen’s decision to reject a big offer from the Saudi Pro League, Soccernet.ng reports. Ta.
After three impressive seasons in Italy’s Serie A, Osimhen became a star for half of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The Super Eagles striker scored 31 goals in all competitions as Napoli won the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years and reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.
Osimhen has since been linked with some of Europe’s richest clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, all of whom have him on their wish list. Ta.
However, despite PSG offering 100 million euros for Osimhen, Napoli did not approve his departure, with the club insisting there would be no negotiations unless the player’s valuation of 200 million euros was met.
In a seemingly sudden move, Saudi giants Al Hilal made an outrageous offer to Napoli that would make Osimhen the highest-paid African footballer in history.
Many Nigerians, including his family, reportedly wanted Osimhen to accept the offer and leave Napoli, but the 24-year-old has decided to stay.
Okocha, however, expressed displeasure that his young compatriot rejected Alhyar’s offer to leave.
While Okocha admitted the decision rested with Osimhen, he was quick to highlight the financial benefits the Napoli striker could have enjoyed in Saudi Arabia.
Okocha said, according to the New Telegraph: “I don’t understand what that means, it’s his decision, but if I get an offer like that, I’ll go without hesitation.”
“As an African, you can fill your cupboards with trophies, but if you can’t support yourself, no one will appreciate the glory you have amassed.”
“Unfortunately, in Nigeria you have to be your own government. Provide everything you need or you will be burdened.”
Despite having to deal with the inevitable controversy at the beginning of the season with Napoli, Osimhen scored six goals in eight Serie A games.
