Named after former West Indian captain Frank Worrell, the trophy for the Test series between the sides was instituted during the 1960/61 series in Australia. The hosts claimed the trophy, but the West Indies won it back after the 1964/65 home series.

Australia regained it in 1968/69 and held it until 1977/78. Then came the West Indian peak, and they did not relinquish the Frank Worrell Trophy until the famous series of 1994/95 in the West Indies, when the unofficial title of the World Test Champions switched hands.

Australia have held it since then. In fact, the only time the West Indies have even managed to draw a series was the 2-2 outcome of 1998/99 in the Caribbean. Australia have now won nine series in a row against the West Indies.

Australia, fresh from a 3-0 sweep of Pakistan, are yet to name their squad. The West Indies have named seven uncapped players in their 15-man unit: batter Zachary McKasie; wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach; all-rounders Justin Greaves, Kavem Hodge, and Kevin Sinclair; and fast bowlers Akeem Jordan and Shamar Joseph.
