FIA sporting director Steve Nielsen has resigned after less than a year in the role.
In other news from the FIA, sporting director Nielsen has resigned from his position after less than a year in order to streamline and diversify his duties. This came after the events of his 2021 F1 season, which took place under coach Mohamed and Ben Sulayem.
Sulayem specifically decided to hand over the management of sporting affairs in F1 to Nielsen, as he had a secondary role in F1’s affairs, at least in public. He worked with Formula boss Nicolas and his Tombasis and was responsible for the management and operation of the races.
BBC Sport said news of Nielsen’s resignation was relayed within the FIA on December 21st, following the December 13th announcement that Deborah Mayer, chair of the FIA Women’s Commission, had resigned. Reported.
Although Mr Nielsen’s move was supported by F1 teams following his work as an F1 executive, reports suggest he received little support from the FIA to make the race control changes he wanted. It seems that he was unable to do so.

This could lead to his decision to leave his role and be a cause for concern for F1 teams. This follows the recent dispute between the FIA and FOM over Mercedes’ Toto Wolff and F1 Academy’s Susie Wolff.
Even without mentioning them, the governing body appears to have begun investigating possible conflicts. Despite all 10 F1 teams backing the Wolffs, Mercedes and Susie were left extremely disappointed, even after the allegations were cleared.
A dispute continues between the FIA and Formula 1, including the decision on whether to place an 11th team on the grid. Mr. Nielsen’s resignation may lead to changes in the management committee, as a suitable replacement may be found soon.
