FIA shares F1 Commission meet on sprint, tyre, cooling & more

The FIA ​​shared details with the F1 Commission regarding sprint format optimization, tire coverage/usage, driver cooling and more.

 

The fourth and final meeting of the F1 Commission for 2023 was held at Yas Marina Circuit today, 24 November, ahead of the final race of the season, the FIA ​​F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. 2024 Sprint Format

The Sports Advisory Committee will work out specific details, particularly regarding timing and parc fermé regulations, in order to prepare a final proposal to submit to the F1 Commission for its first meeting in 2024.

Tyre strategy

The Committee agreed that the direction of future tire development should focus on reducing overheating problems and improving the raceability of tires. It has therefore been decided to maintain the tire cover until 2025 and to remove the relevant annexes from the Sporting and Technical Regulations. This required a further decision in July 2024.

After attempting alternative tire allocations for two events this season, the committee has decided to remove the relevant section of the regulations regarding ATA and maintain the standard 13 sets of dry tires for the 2024 season. Did.

Driver cooling

Due to the extreme temperatures during the 2023 FIA F1 Qatar Grand Prix, the Commission has approved an update to the technical regulations to allow the installation of blades to improve cabin cooling for drivers. Updating technical and sporting regulations

Safety-related updates to the technical regulations have been approved to reduce the risk of dislodging metal parts underground by limiting the mass and number of metal parts.

Further minor updates to the Technical Regulations and Sporting Regulations for 2024 have been approved by the Commission.

Financial regulation – the cost of sustainability initiatives

The Committee approved further improvements to exclude the costs of sustainability initiatives from financial rules. This includes, among other things, the definition and identification of sustainability goals and the strategies planned to achieve them, as well as reporting to measure progress towards carbon footprint and emissions targets as well as overall ESG sustainability goals. refers to the costs associated with monitoring, editing, and creating.
