FAF agrees deal with Vladimir Petkovic to coach Algeria amid Peseiro links – Good news for Super Eagles?

Peseiro was targeted by Algeria after his impressive performance against Nigeria in AFCON, but those talks appear to have ended

The Algerian Football Association has announced the appointment of Vladimir Petković as the new coach of the senior men’s national team, Soccernet.ng reported.

Under the guidance of Djamel Belmadi, Algeria performed poorly in the 2023 African Cup of Nations. They got only two points from two games and were eliminated in the group stage.

After the defeat, Algeria parted ways with Belmadi and negotiations were held regarding the transfer of Super Eagles coach Jose Peceiro, who led the team to second place. However, all these negotiations are coming to naught as Petkovic’s appointment is imminent.

Meanwhile, Peceiro’s future is still uncertain as his contract expired after AFCON. However, with Algeria considering the appointment of Petkovic, it is likely that Peseiro will be appointed as manager.

This will be good news for the Super Eagles ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers later this year. Appointing a new coach for the Super Eagles will cost the NFF a lot of money unless it is a raw coach.

With Algeria gone, Peceiro’s options are limited and he will have an easy time getting the job as he has been with the Super Eagles for two years.

What do you think? Is Algeria’s decision to look elsewhere a good sign for Nigeria?
