During the match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, WPL broadcasters replaced the dot balls on the ticker with green tree symbols.
With four matches left in the tournament, the WPL broadcasters began to replace the dot ball symbols (usually dots) on the ticker with green tree symbols. They introduced it during a clash between the Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on March 12.
There has been no official announcement or release on the exact reason behind this yet. However, the BCCI had replaced dot balls with green tree icons during the last four games of the 2023 IPL (the playoffs). This can be assumed to be a similar initiative.
Back then, the Tata Group – official sponsors of both the IPL and the WPL – had announced that they would plant 500 trees per dot ball. In all, 294 balls were bowled across the four matches, which ought to have resulted in 147,000 saplings being planted.
At Delhi, Ellyse Perry (6-15) registered the best figures in WPL history. Bangalore, 43-0 at one point and 65-1 later in the match, were 92-8 after 15.2 overs at the time of writing. There have been 54 dot balls so far – in other words, 27,000 saplings going by the IPL 2023 rate.
